Hi Denyse - I don't think I've ever been a super confident person. It used to bother me, but these days I'm much more comfortable with being a "hermit" and not forcing myself to interact where I'm not comfortable. Large groups and constant socialising drains me, so small catch-ups here and there with people I know and like is my answer and it fills my tank.....then I come home to my haven.
Moving certainly takes it out of you and so do expectations and illnesses - you've had a very full year of turmoil to navigate - slowly, slowly my friend. x
Hi Denyse, I've never been a confident person, and I feel as I am ageing I'm becoming less confident. Possibly due to medical issues that I'm having, but I'm trying not to give in to it. Your Reel is wonderful and it's great to see you out and about enjoying your days.
Hi Denyse, I was never confident but I've pushed myself to try things especially after 50 and the more I did the more self confident I felt. I think I also stopped worrying about what other people think (still a WIP). I agree though that ageing can bring vulnerability and we start to question ourselves especially after an illness. I've lost my confidence last year after my illness and cardiologist visit but now I'm feeling better I'm ready to take on the Podcast again. We do wax and wane don't we. Take care and love the reel. x
OH I definitely think confidence can wax and wane! I don't consider myself a super confident person to begin with but have found that my confidence can even vary by the day depending on what I'm facing. I find that my anxiety is often tied into my confidence too; if I'm doing something or going somewhere familiar I tend to have little to no anxiety and lots of confidence but if I'm heading somewhere new or meeting someone new-- even just talking to someone new on the phone I find my anxiety goes up and my confidence goes down.
Loved the reel - you achieved so much in January! I don't think I'm especially confident but when I have a wobble, I remind myself that I can do hard things (even if I don't want to do them LOL!) I hope you do the same because when I think of strong women, I always think of you! I think you had so many "big" things to deal with in 2023 and even the positive big things, even though we want them and look forward to them, still take their toll. I think you have the right idea, doing more of what you love when you want to/feel able to do it.
I definitely believe that confidence waxes and wanes, Denyse. Hopefully, overall we see a net increase in confidence with time and effort. I hope you are able to get out in nature, as I find that to be a cure for most anything that ails you. It's been raining here for days, so I haven't had my usual walks, and it is wearing on me for sure.
Hi Denyse, it's a good question you ask - I think confidence can wax and wane depending on what we're going through at the time and how we're able to process it all. I'm usually fairly confident but it doesn't take much to knock the wind from my sails.
Hi Denyse, my confidence is up and down - never steady. It depends what we're talking about - confidence in my art, with socialising, public speaking, in my own decisions, in how I think I'm perceived or liked? The list of options could be quite long. I have read a lot about menopause and post menopausal women suffering self confidence issues. I don't know how much we can attribute to that. I know that prolonged illness can not only make us physically weak but can affect us emotionally and yes our confidence in some ways too. You've had lots of major life changes and you've managed them with such grace. Perhaps now your mind and body are just playing catch ups. Time and patience with yourself is the way to go. Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy and take care! xo
I think confidence does indeed go up and done for a lot of internal and external factors. Sometimes habit, we chip away at ourselves. That we can work on. Sometimes it's just physical ailments take a mental toll - that can be hard. Sometimes it's when we see how the world views us - and that can be really hard. I have learnt how to roll with that one a little better, and sometimes even change that (you will sometimes even see the shift in someone you're talking to reaccesses their assumptions - it's visible on their face). I think it's probably a good thing if you are aware of the sinking confidence, because you might be able to target it. Ultimately, confidence is really just feeling good about yourself or at peace with who you are. As our good friend Augusten Burroughs says ' just focus on the thing in front of you' the task or conversation and don't let the other thoughs and voices take over. Best way to be confident. #WWWhimsy
