Bless your heart. I am so glad you are taking care of you and making your health and happiness a number one priority. I am following your good lead and trying to do the same. What a festive arrangement you created of all the birthday cards and photos for your sweet dad. My mother had macular, too, and was about blind. Made for such a lonely existence. Hope this February is the first in a long line of wonderful second months of the year that are perfectly delightful.
It’s a big job being the memory keeper and main organiser Denyse. It’s been. A lot on your plate and I wish you well as February unfolds. Take care, as I know you are.
Thanks Deb, I know I "am" the self appointed person in those roles.
They mean a lot to me but I can now enjoy pulling back and that feels great too. Interestingly enough, closing the blog then being unsuccessful in closing down the Facebook page where I shared from the blog made me realise just how much work I had done in terms of connecting on line and making those memories.
All good that I can draw a line under a lot of that. I am enjoying my time deciding on what to do or not..and no-one is judging me. It's nice!!
I am relishing the space where I don't need to 'be anywhere unless it's a have-to appointment' and I am keeping these well spaced out too.
Hi, Denyse - Your reflections on February—past and present—are very moving. It’s wonderful to see you prioritizing self-care, embracing art, and allowing yourself space to process emotions. Your role as a memory keeper is so valuable, and words always resonate with much warmth. Wishing you a February filled with moments of peace, creativity, and joy—with a special celebration for B’s birthday! Take care, and thank you for sharing your journey.
I will be taking good (actually better than ever) care of myself over this month and today I am balancing some cooking of little cakes for B (now done) and driving somewhere to be in nature.
I am glad to have made choices that help me heal.
I am so appreciative of your kind words dear Donna.
Yes, this is your time for yourself, Denyse, and your husband of course. I feel the same way, after a lifetime of caring for others. Although as mums we would both do anything for our children if they needed us, I’m sure. I hope you have a peaceful and happy February. Kate x

Oh Leslie, you write with such kindness and care, I am humbled. Thank you.
I am, finally, realising, I can be quieter (!) and slower (!) to enable me to heal and live within the means of this body at aged 75.
Macular degeneration is awful...and I get my eyes checked annually..and so far all OK.
I like that I may finally have February as a good month to remember. Here's hoping.
Take care,

Thanks so much for your understanding (personally too) Kate, and for dropping by today.
I am glad we have connected on Substack. Always good to know of another retired educator writing on line!
Take care,
Denyse x
