Welcome to Denyse Whelan Writes Here.
Today is Monday 11 November 2024.
The day, which was said, in 1918, to be remembered as the ‘day to end all wars’.
We know, however, this was not true…but I stood and remembered today at a local shopping centre, at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month and gave silent thanks to all who served and serve.
On my way home I decided I needed a ‘nature fix’…and found it here:
A local Hills Shire Park called Alfred Whaling Reserve where, along side a community swimming centre and sporting fields, is the Queen Elizabeth 11 Rose Garden.
I last visited on a very HOT day, before Dad had become unwell…(he died late February) and whilst I saw some blooms that day, the heat from the pathway was quite bad.
Today, gloomy and at around 20C, I stopped and SPRING into SUMMER is there…in the gardens.
I had a gentle walk, noticing and stopping to photograph roses which appealed to me.
I gave thanks to nature…who always keeps on going…and to my parents who enjoyed making their gardens over many decades, and to my husband who is nurturing the one here and who loves his roses.
Noticing nature is grounding.
It helps me put some aspects of my inner life into perspective.
And each time I walk and notice I am uplifted by beauty and the life cycle I don’t necessarily understand but know of its importance.
Come for this walk with me…..

And for some more beauties….

Hoping this impromptu and for me, imporant, post gives you some visual interest and enjoyment.
Do you seek times in nature to help you too?
Denyse.
Thank you for your kind comments about my refreshed and lightened look to my Substack. I am making a few different avatars to use as well.
Loving reading your post, as always. Your ‘almost summer’ is our ‘almost winter’ and yet ours are becoming more mild and damp & I miss the crisp leaves on the hard ground & a proper frost. Our garden is being put to bed for a while, nice reading the emergence of yours! Enjoy xxx
Oh wow; what beautiful roses! I definitely seek time in nature to help me emotionally.
