Welcome to Denyse Whelan Writes Here.
It may not be for you, and that is why I share..not as a criticism but what I have found works for me.
I am not about goal setting…I did far too much of that when I “thought” I had to lose weight…blah blah (hint: get an oral cancer and see how you feel about losing weight without trying AND you are told “don’t lose weight” after decades of…(I am sure you know what I mean)
I AM about being more mindful …and being more content with what is…along with some new directions in which I may choose to use my emotional and physical energies…
They became very low over the past 5-6 weeks as I was affected by a virus..(they hang around) and triggers of grief around my firsts without my 100 yo Dad being in my life (actual life) and I was WRUNG out from a constancy of ‘being on’…
Eventually the body says stop…even if I didn’t listen for a bit.
I am, finally, feeling the benefits of:
REST
USING a COMPASSION APP
BEING in my HUSBAND’s COMPANY
SHARING my life via an ON-LINE diary called Day One
DAILY MEDITATION & GRATITUDE
ART FUN
GOING OUTSIDE to NURTURE the GARDEN
NOTICING Nature
MEETING a FRIEND for COFFEE from time to time
PLANNING & ENJOYING a DAY EXCURSION
How are you approaching your older years..assuming you are like me definitely no longer a part of ‘midlife’ because that, my friends is gone once you are late 60s (my view) …
and I am now 75. So I am an older (not always wiser) person …closer to 80 this year than 70.
Warm wishes…
Denyse x
Hi Denyse, the more I am engaged in social media the more I am learning that we need to do what is right for us. All the 'Should be doing', 'Should be thinking' posts make me feel pressured and unsure about myself. I read, absorb and then take on board or discard what doesn't suit me or my lifestyle. I get where you are. For me, you know I'm a goal/intention person and a list girl. that works for me and makes me happy so that is what I do. Life is too short to do things that aren't making us happy. x
Your approach sounds very restful and pleasant, with a focus on self-care and quality of life, very appropriate for an older person. While I'm a goal-setter (and it's helpful for me), I still go with the flow and take nothing for granted, but I've learned to enjoy the journey and to celebrate every step forward. Like you say, whatever works for each one of us. I always enjoy reading your posts and I'm glad that you continue sharing your thoughts on life. I don't comment a lot these days (hope to get back to it) but I always read.
