Healing with Courage in May.
Welcome to Denyse Whelan Writes Here.
A short but important update from me about my recovery from my trauma-induced emotional exhaustion aka burnout.
Whilst I was only officially diagnosed in late January 2025 the signs were there for me in the latter half of 2024 in the form of loss of interest in any form of socialising, frequently having episodes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome & a heaviness in my heart, soul & body.
It's been harder than any physical only illness.. or condition.
And the recovery timeline & more is dependent on the person, support systems, medical help & TIME!
I’ve just posted this on Instagram as it was, for me, a big step of courage I’ve taken today & it was important for me to mark it!
I wrote a post last week explaining it too!
From Instagram. I’m @denysewhelan there
Today!
.
My first "return visit" to place where I had my big indication that I was NOT at all well physically & emotionally....13 Jan just before my diagnosis with #emotionalexhaustion aka #burnout
.
I used my #courage gleaned from the harder parts of cancer recovery & inner work I'm doing to help me, to determine that I would return for my MUCH needed podiatrist appointment...
.
And I did!
.
So good I could & it's a first big step in making connections outside the family & GP & home.

Getting out there and doing these things that can seem so small to some in these circumstances is such a massive step. I’m glad you’re celebrating your strength and courage throughout, I think that’s something that will help see you through the tough days x
Good these little reminders pop up (and you've reminded me I should think about seeing a podiatrist). I think sometimes we have to see how far we've come to notice the growth (or courage, or strength)
