Welcome to Denyse Whelan Writes Here.
Gratitude, Glimmers, Grief & Growth.
I’ve had a shift of thinking about the 4 G’s as I called them here and have made a newer and better fit for my purpose photo collage for this post.
As is my daily practice I have found gratitude in the every day…and in the special times.
I’m grateful for my health recovery after emotional exhaustion…and that I am now far more likely to self-care before self-criticism arises…that’s something I am very grateful for.
My first solo coffee and browse outing for many weeks.
Glimmers are something I see with ease … most days. I think because I am visually oriented I “see” so much more than some. I am, of course, someone who is aware to keep an eye out too. I did begin to use the Glimmer Journal by Deb Dana (Polyvagal Theorist and Writer) but with my various other physical and on-line journals I have been “mindful of my capacity”##
On this walk last week, the glimmers I noted were where the shadows and their patterns and the placement of the trees along the path as it curved towards the river bank
Now as for Grief, I am finding that the more time that passes since the death of my father, the less grief feels hard to deal with. However, I am actually becoming more connected with the memory of my mother and know that my grieving for her was not the depth I feel now. Maybe it’s me getting much older.
I was in my late 50s when Mum died aged 82. I am grateful to have memories of what I have been blessed with from my Mum’s legacy.
I know now that this year, with its complicated emotional and physical health issues, is bringing me the chance grow. This growth is coming in the form of someone who is now more connected to her ‘true self’. I am enjoying the changes within and also recognising the bumps in the road thanks to mindset changes.
This book IS the one which explains, even in its introduction, just how “we women” can become emotionally exhausted.
##These were my “guiding words for 2025…and Life took over..and I was beyond my capacity until recently. So, I am preferring to let that notion sit.
This is my post for “What’s Been On Your Calendar” link up from these lovely bloggers whose links are below.
It’s proven to be a great space for me to bring news about how I am going as it’s been quite a challenge for me in 2025 to find a quality of life. Thank you all.
Thanks for the chance to share here.

Lots of good things here Denyse and I'm so pleased you feel you are finding a new normal. The glimmers are always worth looking for and being grateful for what we have is so important. Thanks for linking up with us!

I love the play of shadows and always try to capture them, but can never quite get the "feeling" of them on (digital) film.
