Welcome to ….Denyse Whelan Writes Here. My space on the internet where I share words, thoughts and photos from my life.
I have written just this week about the ‘big life’ event happening tomorrow! Seriously not that BIG, and just a number, right? I’m turning 75 and not all people get to do that so that is where I choose gratitude first!
It’s been a BIG year….2024…and I find myself saying that a lot. And in other years that have passed!!
I’m choosing* to find gratitude for my initiative….in taking charge of my own explorations days ….*I can’t find my initial post for my Word of The Year…or similar but it’s been about CHOICES, CHOOSING and CHOSE!
My most recent one was to Sydney Harbour foreshore…I do love that harbour.
And I am always grateful for its presence, and for me being able to access it mostly with ease.
On Thursday 21 November, I drove about 45 minutes from home to a couple of viewing vantage points where I could park, walk and view…but it was a popular day for others too…and I have become very UNKEEN on feeding North Sydney Council’s ridiculous parking meters…It cost me over $16 for a council carpark to hear my author friend speak at North Sydney Library recently. I was there for under 90 minutes.
First place I visited was Blues Point. No parks so this is a photo from month before when I was successful!
Next, using my trusty internal navigation setting, aided by a bit of Google maps I wanted to drive from there to Kirribilli. But on the way, thanks to the detour, I got to see the Harbour and the Bridge from Lavender Street. How sweet this was….because I got a park.
And next was the place with the paid parking (again) but not today…because I parked very briefly at this fave spot since returning to Sydney….down to the edge (almost) of the Harbour.
And then I drove over to Mosman, via a couple of places where “I” decided I knew more than the google maps (dear reader, I did not) but the view from Kurraba Point was a new one!
But the best part of that day awaited me at Bradley’s Head Mosman. And a ‘loo!
Free parking as we have complimentary NSW Parks and Wildlife annual passes.
It’s such a lovely spot and uncrowded on a week day. This day I decided to see if I could get my feet wet.
For this ‘beach and water’ girl that is the ultimate..not quite, going fully in would be, but at 74 this was the ideal grounding experience.
After looking around, I went down the steps, towards the rock outcrop but I couldn’t access the water directly or with dignity, and then I looked left…and the MOST ideal spot was there!

And then I did this….

I now have the idyllic scene as my screen saver here and know “I will be back”…..
Sadly I am still unwell from a virus. It’s not a cold, nor covid but just an energy zapping one, with an accompanying sore throat. I know it takes time to overcome…and I will.
Joining in with friends in both southern and northern hemispheres for….

Comment to Deb's World is here ...my substack wouldn't allow it to publish..will try to work it out. Thank you Deb. I've had a lovely family afternoon tea and seeing the family "is" the best gift of all as you well know. I am feeling much better today and will, despite tomorrow 'being my birthday' take it easy. We are no longer up for meals or even morning teas out together and that is fine. I've had some kind words via cards from the family and will no doubt hear from some too. It's the first birthday without Dad wishing me a HB but I am grateful he got to do that for 74 years. I so want to get back to that water....and I will! Denyse x
Happy birthday!
