Welcome to my Substack.
Denyse Whelan B.Ed M.Ed, retired educator, writes here sharing her words & photos from Australia.
Today is Saturday 19 July 2025…and I am READY to move forward.
I’ve been going through some life changes..for the good of course…and managing my health and welfare very well indeed.
In moving forward I need to acknowledge the challenges I have met from my recent and long past health history.
They’ve been written about here and elsewhere.
In keeping with my ‘mantra’ from way back I have made significant changes within that will be reflected in my writing and sharing:
‘Teacher Forever’ or #teacher4ever or #teacherforever
My official retirement medal presentation in Parramatta in December 2018 from the then Dep Secretary of NSW Education, Murat Dizdar, who is now Secretary, and my daughter (also a teacher) to the left looking on. A long story I will share one day!
I feel the words and photos are directing to me to share more of my story from my 40 years as an educator in K-6 schools in Australia, a University tutor to pre-service teachers, a volunteer tutor of English to those new to Australia and in general my LOVE for and OF education, teaching and learning.
My husband of 54+ years notes I am often “determined Denyse” and this is mostly for good!
And he is my best friend and kindly observer of me along with being the wisest person I know…
And he wishes me well going F O R W A R D….
I am honouring my life as an educator using my hard earned degrees in my name now.
I will be back on Wednesday for #WWWhimsy link up!
This post is now live and I am delighted to be sharing it.
Warmest wishes
Denyse x
Once an educator, always an educator Denyse! Well done and all the best to you on moving forward.
You've had quite a year and I'm glad to see your progress, how far you've come with self-compassion and that you're ready to move on. I (sadly) know very well about burnout. Self-compassion is always a work in progress but as I see it, it becomes is a mindset and the good thing is we can still enjoy life.
I love how proud you are for being an educator and having done the career you did, which is very impressive because it's not an easy job.
