Welcome to this brief-ish post as Christmas season is here and by the end of the week I will be adding a new post joining in What’s Been On Your Calendar December 2024.
As I began to feel better over the past few days, after a virus and as my husband notes “some burnout” I have been taking myself on a couple of drives west/northwest of here to immerse myself in nature.
Such a healing and helpful idea for me.
And having a new car helps!
I find a sense of curiosity is part of my mission and on this occasion, my intention was to visit the oldest church (purported to be) in Australia, and its grounds at Ebenezer, but before I got to that turn off, I decided to turn right into:
Ebenezer Wharf Road (no through road)
What could go wrong?
Nothing as it turned out because following my sense of curiosity led me to view my fave river system known by the original owners as the Dyarrubin, but better known as the Hawkesbury River.
I’ve been enjoying parts of the Hawkesbury River and its views at the Mooney Mooney Bridge on my many trips to Sydney when we lived in the coast.
I’ve loved seeing it in flood and much lower at Windsor
And as recently as this week I visited at another spot.
But this visit was special!
I drove down a road between two properties and saw it was OK as I was on public land and stopped…parked the car, and walked to find this:

The river is wider here and has a turn to the north..and eventually thanks to relatively even ground (and no snakes or goannas to be seen) I could explore further.
Along this stretch of the river are caravan parks and waterski places and there were a few which passed the river here. It was wonderful…and yes, I did the ‘wow’ thing a few times.

The delights of summer were heard very much…the cicadas are making double the noise as I learned recently as the two varieties are out at the same time which is unusual.
This day too, was Summer Solstice here in the southern hemisphere and I was watching my on-line friends remark that the shortest day was now…Winter Solstice.
Me? I just know it was bearable in the heat yesterday and I got to experience some new views and acquire greater knowledge of my new car.
Joining in with Natalie and friends for Weekend Coffee Share with this post on December 27 once it is live.
Take care everyone,
Enjoy whichever season (of weather) you are in!
Denyse.
Thank you for including the video/audio of the cicadas. I grew up in the U.S. south and miss hearing them as we don't really have them much in the desert of El Paso. Love that you jumped in your Juke - so cute - and went out to get a dose of Mother Nature. Nothing makes me feel better than being outside in the sunshine. Hope you are back to 110%. Wishing you good health and much continued happiness in 2025.
What a lovely river visit, Denyse. I like the green surroundings and the cicada noise which is definitely the sound of warm summer days. Thank you for your weekend coffee share. Have a good week and happy New Year to you and B.
