Denyse Whelan Writes Here:
Welcome to a nostalgic look at our relationship on our 54th Wedding Anniversary.
Today!
On Saturday 23 January 1971 we were married, in a church in my home suburb in Sydney.

We left, the next day on our honeymoon…after having brunch at my parents’ place and saying good bye…to drive slowly up the north coast of N.S.W. to Ballina where my husband had gone to high school and it was also where his large family lived for some time.
We were both teachers, in N.S.W. north west schools. Near Narrabri.
We were setting out on life’s adventure very much in love and looking forward to our rented house on a bush block being ready for us to move into …we had already left a lot of our things there…but read down to see what happened….
Yes, we were not able to get back to our place, due to flood waters, but were kindly offered accommodation at the house of one of B’s school’s parents.
Eventually, the muddy roads kind of cleared and rain stayed away for us to “walk” up to the house, and the next day or so “I” had to go to school because MY school was in the N.S.W. Eastern zone…and husband’s was in the N.S.W. Western zone and he began a week later. He actually dropped me to a creek, where I was picked up in a tractor to go to school.
This city-raised woman learned a lot about her comfort zone and what was not back then. I was also relatively newly pregnant so I was on a BIG learning curve.
And wait, there is more..no not really.
We have made it through a lot on our 54 years that is for sure….remaining best friends and in love. Our family consists of two children and 8 grandchildren.
Back to January 2021.
After the drag that was covid and all the restrictions I wanted something to happen to mark our 50 years.
Well. We did celebrate in a couple of ways. We had family come over two days because “covid” had ramped up again, and we could only have 5 people in the house at a time.
Glad for These Golden Memories.
And this one highlighted…where someone from etsy made this from my supplied words…along with the pages above.
Thanks to those who have given us their good wishes on social media today.
We are grateful to be living back in north western Sydney again, and close to family and friends.
We don’t celebrate days like these specifically in any way but we are always grateful to have each other and our love. Long lasting love!
